KNOW
THE FACTS
-
Human Trafficking is a form of modern day slavery where a person profits from exploiting someone for labor (labor trafficking) or commercial sex (sex trafficking) through the means of force, fraud, or coercion.
-
According to the state and federal law, any minor who performs a commercial sex act is defined as a victim of sex trafficking, regardless of the use of force, fraud, or coercion. There is NO such thing as a child prostitute.
-
Because of the media's influence, many believe that human trafficking only occurs in foreign countries, specifically third world countries. However, 83% of the victims identified in the US are US citizens.
-
Human Trafficking does NOT discriminate. It affects every community in the United States across age, gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds. Human trafficking is just as prevalent in the rural areas, suburbs and small towns as it is in urban areas.
